Voith is to supply hydropower technology to two projects in China after winning new contracts in the country.
The first contract involves the supply of four pump turbine generator units for the Xiamen Pumped Storage Plant, while the second order is for large-scale pumps for the Wan Jia Zhai project, aiming to expand the existing water supply network in Bejing.
Fujian Xiamen Pumped Storage Co. Ltd. (Xiamen), a subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), awarded Voith a contract that includes the supply of four 350MW reversible pump turbines and generators, together with auxiliary equipment.
Xiamen Pumped Storage Plant will have a rated water head of 545m and a rated rotary speed of 428.6 rpm. The first unit will be commissioned by the end of October 2023, and all units will be put into commercial operation by August 2024.
The Xiamen plant will operate a total installed capacity of 1400MW. The project will help optimize the energy structure of the Fujian power grid by balancing peak periods, frequency and phase regulation.
Voith also signed a contract in early November with Shanxi Yellow River Water Industry Corporation in Shanghai for the supply and installation of 19 large-scale pumps and accessories for the Wan Jia Zhai project in Bejing.
Voith's scope of supply includes 14 pump units with an output of 11MW each, a delivery head of 140m and a flow rate of 6.45m3/sec.
The deal also includes the supply of five smaller pump units with an output of 6MW each, a delivery head of 76m and a flow rate of 6.45m3/sec.
The order, worth EUR 27 million, was placed during the China International Import Expo, China's first international import-themed trade fair. The pumps are needed to expand the existing water supply network for the Chinese capital of Beijing. The project will help address the increasing water demand of the millions of inhabitants of the metropolis in the future.
