Enerjisa has announced that it put seven hydroelectric power plants with a combined installed capacity of 600MW into operation in Turkey in 2013.
The Turkish hydroelectric projects that were commissioned in 2013 were: Dağdelen (8MW), Kandil (207MW), Kuşaklı (20MW), Köprü (156MW), Sarıgüzel (103MW), and in December Çambaşı (45MW) and the first unit of Kavşak Bendi power plant (62MW).
The new start-ups brought Enerjisa’s installed capacity to 2435MW by the end of 2013, with over half from renewable sources.
The share of renewable energy sources in our installed capacity has risen from "23% to 51% by the end of 2013," said Yetik K. Mert, CEO of Enerjisa.
The remaining two units at the Kavşak Bendi hydroelectric plant have since been commissioned, bringing Enerjisa’s installed capacity to 2560MW.
The company, which is 50%-owned by European utility E.ON, says that it is moving towards its goal of having 5000MW of installed capacity by 2015.
E.ON said in its first quarter report that Enerjisa is ‘performing well from an operational perspective, although this is being overshadowed by the Turkish lira’s exchange rate.’
