Green Highland Renewables has announced it has acquired the site for a 2MW scheme on land owned and managed by Forestry Commission Scotland at Allt Coire Chaorach in Glen Dochart, its second purchase of a hydro site from utility SSE.
The site at Allt Coire Chaorach is a high-head, run of river scheme which will generate 2MW for export into the electricity distribution network. Construction on the Allt Coire Chaorach project, which has full planning consent, will begin this year and aims to be generating electricity in spring 2016.
The deal follows Green Highland Renewables’ purchase of the 2MW Allt a’ Chonais scheme near Achnasheen from SSE in October 2013, which is on track to be commissioned later this year.
"This is another landmark deal for Green Highland Renewables and underlines our reputation for delivering quality hydro schemes across Scotland," said Ian Cartwright, Managing Director at Green Highland Renewables. "We agreed with SSE that the Allt Coire Chaorach project plays to our strengths and fits our core strategy to expand our portfolio of schemes."
Green Highland Renewables has now completed seven projects, have eight under construction and have a 100% track record in securing consents, with 45 projects approved to date. The firm said it was actively seeking opportunities to grow our development portfolio further in order to deliver more schemes across Scotland.
