Toshiba Corporations’s hydropower business in the US is to become part of a new company formed out of the merger of three of the firm’s power systems businesses in the country.
The company announced a restructure will see the consolidation of the thermal and hydropower business operated by Toshiba International Corporation; the steam turbine and generator business for nuclear power systems operated by Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corporation (TANE); and Westinghouse’s nuclear STG business into the new company – Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES).
TAES is due to begin operation on 1 April 2015, when it will provide customers with ‘one-stop solutions’ by unifying the sales and services contact for STG business into a single company, Toshiba said in a statement.
"This reorganisation of key elements of Toshiba Group’s power systems business in the US is a major step forward. A unified, focused organisation will be more efficient and, most importantly, able to support our customers from planning through to maintenance services," said Shigenori Shiga, corporate executive vice president of Toshiba Corporation, and President & CEO of Toshiba’s Power Systems Company.
TAES will have 500 staff and will be headquartered in North Carolina. Its three main business activities will be: supply of STGs for nuclear and themal power applications, supply of renenwable energy power systems and the provision of related services.
