China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection has blocked development of the planned 1000MW Xiaonanhai hydropower project on the Jinsha River, newswires have reported.
Reuters reported that the Ministry wrote to developers China Three Gorges Project Corporation to state that the project could not be built. The decision was reportedly taken to help protect fish habitat in the lower reaches of the river.
