A Turkish-led joint venture has won the consultancy services contract for rehabilitation of the Warsak hydropower plant in Pakistan, the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has announced.
Awarded through a competitive bidding process, the project is the second rehabilitation of the power station on the river Kabul, which has seen its capacity decrease to 193MW from 243MW as a result of its ageing equipment.
Four firms led by Turkey’s Dolsar make up the consortium which was named the winning bidder. The JV is expected to bring the 56 year old project back to full capacity.
Funding for the rehabiliation project is being provided by Germany’s KfW, the French Development Agency and the European Investment Bank.
