South Africa’s Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has said it is still committed to a project to raise the Clanwilliam Dam wall, despite budget cuts affecting infrastructure projects.

The Clanwilliam Dam project could not be implemented as planned in the current financial year due to the budget cuts by National Treasury, said DWS, but it has now added the project to a list of schemes earmarked for potential investors.

It added that it would be more costly to stop work on the project as it would have to pay for standing time. The Construction South team has already been appointed for the project, and are currently being utilized in other projects in the region.
