Preliminary construction could soon start on a new hydropower plant in Iceland after approval was granted for a construction permit.
The Iceland Review reports that Árneshreppur municipal council in the Westfjords unanimously approved the permit last week, subject to certain conditions. The permit allows for road construction, bridge construction, and development of worker’s facilities and a sewage system. The permit also covers geological surveys.
The plant is to be located in the Strandir region, near the Hvalá river on Ófeigsfjörður fjord, Iceland Review said, quoting mbl.is. Under the terms of the permit, the developer, who has not been named, would need to submit monthly environmental assessments and supervisory reports throughout the construction.
