Part of the dam wall at Toddbrook reservoir in the Derbyshire has been damaged following heavy rains in the area, with residents of the town of Whaley Bridge asked to leave their homes over fears the dam could collapse.

A severe flood warning has been issued for the River Goyt where the reservoir is located, with the Environment Agency stating that  the river could rise rapidly because of water from the reservoir.

According to initial reports, the dam is managed by the Canal and River Trust. Engineers are currently onsite assessing the dam.

We will update as more information comes to light.
