In a bid to foster greater community engagement and understanding, EnergyAustralia has unveiled an animated 'fly-through' tour of the Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro project. The tour offers an intricately detailed glimpse into the proposed concept design, aiming to facilitate further dialogue and consultation on the project's development.

Accompanying the animation, additional technical drawings associated with the concept design have been made available on the project's website, addressing the requests from the community for more comprehensive information.

Mike De Vink, Project Director of the Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro venture, emphasized the significance of these resources in enhancing public awareness: "The animation and technical drawings provide an additional level of detail to help visualise the project, and we hope they are a catalyst for further feedback."

Looking ahead, De Vink outlined plans for forthcoming updates, including the release of more detailed information as environmental and feasibility studies progress. He also highlighted the commitment to ongoing community engagement, particularly in discussions regarding benefits sharing and potential socio-economic impacts.

At the feasibility stage, a decision on the project's advancement is expected in the latter half of 2025. Situated on EnergyAustralia-owned land, the project is designed to operate without the need for new transmission infrastructure, thereby streamlining its implementation.

With a proposed capacity of 335MW for up to eight hours, with potential for up to 400MW over a shorter duration, the Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro project is poised to provide energy for approximately 150,000 homes. Positioned as a crucial component in Australia's transition away from coal-fired power, energy storage initiatives like Lake Lyell are envisioned to play a pivotal role in ensuring grid stability while curbing carbon emissions.
