Mpatamanga Hydro Power Limited (MHPL) has announced the shortlist of companies invited to submit detailed proposals for the Mpatamanga Hydropower Project in Malawi, a major initiative set to nearly double the country’s electricity capacity through renewable hydropower.

Located on the Shire River, the 358MW project will harness water from Lake Malawi to generate electricity. The project is situated in the southern region, covering the Blantyre and Neno districts. The Mpatamanga Hydropower Project aims to strengthen Malawi’s energy infrastructure and contribute to sustainable development.

The selection process, guided by strategic sponsors EDF (France) and Scatec, in collaboration with the Government of Malawi, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the World Bank, was conducted with a focus on transparency, fairness, and competition.

The shortlisted companies, now invited to submit detailed proposals, have been divided into three work packages: Civil Works, Electro/Mechanical Works, and Transmission Lines and Substations.
