Eco Wave Power Global AB has announced the launch of Israel’s first wave energy pilot station, set to open on December 5, 2024, at Jaffa Port. Developed in collaboration with EDF Renewables Israel, Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, and municipal company Atarim, the project aims to generate electricity from sea waves and supply it to the national grid for the first time.
The event will take place at Warehouse 2 in Jaffa Port, featuring a formal inauguration by Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai. Attendees will include energy officials, investors, and partners.
Eco Wave Power‘s founder and CEO, Inna Braverman, highlighted the significance of the initiative. “The launch of Israel’s first wave energy power plant is more than just a technological achievement – it’s a powerful statement about the future we envision. This project at Jaffa Port represents a historic milestone in the global renewable energy journey, proving that sea waves can be a viable, clean, and consistent source of electricity,” she said.
Ayalon Vaniche, CEO of EDF Renewables Israel, expressed support for the partnership. “Our partnership with Eco Wave Power gave birth to a unique pilot that harnesses wave energy to produce clean electricity. We have a strong interest in assessing the potential of this new technology, as part of the broad interest of EDF Group for marine energies,” he stated.
The project is part of Atarim’s Blue Economy Innovation Hub at Jaffa Port, which hosts various marine innovation initiatives. This development also connects to Tel Aviv’s broader sustainability efforts, including its participation in the “Women4Climate” program by C40 Cities, which supports women-led projects tackling urban climate challenges.
