A COMMITTEE ADVISING THE South Korean government on the privatisation of the state owned power utility Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has said that KEPCO should continue to manage the nuclear and hydro units which have a total capacity of about 18,250MW. About 3150MW of this is hydro.
The proposals put forward by the Generation Company Privatisation Committee (GCPC) will form the basis for government privatisation plans to be implemented later this fiscal year. GCPC has recommended limiting foreign participation to 30% of the power generation capacity.
The generating operations of state owned monopoly (KEPCO) were split into five thermal generation companies and one nuclear and hydro generation unit in April 2001.
