The reduced payments will also allow Ande to direct some investments in to transmission and distribution. The reduction in purchases from Itaipu is not expected to result in any reduction in the power distributed, or blackouts.
Ande reduces power purchases from Itaipu
Paraguay's state power company Ande has cut its power purchases from the Itaipu bi-national hydro plant from the original 713MW/month to 400MW/month, resulting in a net reduction in payments of US$84M to Itaipu for 2003.
