ELECTRICITY OF VIETNAM (EVN) plans to build 22 hydro stations alongside eight oil and gas-fuelled stations and seven coal-fired stations from 2003 to 2010. The plan is expected to cost US$19.1B, with around US$14B coming from EVN’s own budget.
The utility also plans to build two 500kV transmission lines to link Pleiku in the central highland province of Dac Lac to the central province of Da Nang, and linking Da Nang to Thuong Tin in the northern province of Ha Tay. The new lines will join the 500kV Pleiku-Phu Lam of Ho Chi Minh City line.
Vietnam currently has 14 power plants with a combined capacity of 8000MW. They include eight hydro stations, which account for 52% of national electricity output.
