The contract includes the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of three 40MW vertical Pelton hydro turbines, each with matching synchronous generators, generator transformers, microprocessor-based controls, valves and auxiliaries.
BHEL’s facility in Bhopal is to supply turbines, generators and valves, while controls are to come from Bangalore and transformers from Jhansi.
Work on the power plant, located on the Jammu & Kashmir – Himachal Pradesh border, is expected to be completed in 38 months.
The deal follows the award of a US$15M contract, agreed at the end of June, for work on the 18MW Mukerian stage II facility in Punjab.
BHEL is to provide two 9MW bulb type turbines, generators, generator transformers controls and balance of plant, with commissioning expected by 2006.
