The Andean Development Corporation (CAF) has approved a US$140M loan for Columbian public utility Isagen to cofinance construction of the 820MW Sogamoso hydroelectric plant, which will be one of the five largest power generating plants in the country upon its completion in 2014.
Sogamoso will increase the power generating capacity of Isagen by 38% from its current 2132MW. Located in Santander in northwest Colombia, the US$1.74B project will contribute 5056GWh/year to the national power grid, equivalent to 50% of the consumption of Bogota and about 10% of the power consumed in the country in a year.
