Unified Energy Systems invested US$267M in the plant in 2004, with overall investment so far amounting to US$1.23B. When completed in 2009, the plant will be equipped with six generating units with a combined generating capacity of 2000MW.
The Bureya plant will supply electricity to Russia Far Eastern regions and help to prevent floods along the Bureya and Amur rivers. Estimates are that electricity generated by the plant in 2004 made it possible to save the equivalent of 1.75M tons of coal.
