According to the Interfax news agency, the relevant contract is expected to be signed by the end of March this year. Construction of the Shakhimardan plant on the Koksu river started in 2002. Operating at full capacity it will generate 16MkWh of electricity a year.
Meanwhile, the Gulba hydroelectric plant is to be constructed on the Dargum Canal in the Samarkand region. The 6MW plant will generate 29MkWh of electricity each year. The Shakhimardan and Gulba plants will cost a total of US$14M to construct.
