The rehabilitation project, expected to cost a total of US$54M, will increase outputs for the two plants from a current combined capacity of 63MW to 83MW.
The projects, located on the Revue River, are both over 40 years old and equipment at the schemes is close to its operating lifetime. The projects owner, the Mozambican public electricity company EDM, has already released a tender for work on the schems, with contracts expected to be signed in December.
The two-year rehabilitation work will begin in 2011, the news service reported.
