The board decided that three projects put forward by Black Bear Hydro Partners in Maine – the Medway, Orono and Stillwater projects – meet the LIHI certification criteria, and awarded all three projects certification for a five-year term, beginning on 1 June 2010 and expiring on 1 June 2015.

In New Hampshire, the Penacook Lower project on the Contoocook River was also awarded five-year certification, beginning on 13 August 2010 and expiring on 13 August 2015.

Also gaining certification was the Woronoco Project on the Westfield River in Massachusetts. The board approved certification this project for five-years, starting on 28 January 2010, with project specific conditions – an appeal can be launched by any commentator against the decision within 30 days of the certification announcement. An appeal request must include specific reasons why the hydropower facility should have failed one or more criteria. If an individual or organization did not comment on the initial application package, they may not file an appeal.

Details on all five projects can be found on the LIHI website at www.lowimpacthydro.org
