The Russian firm, which is part of the RusHydro Group, designed the units to be placed into operation in a short time frame. According to General Director Pavel Shestopalov, specialists from the Institute proposed several unconventional layout alternatives for the project, which reduced the construction time to two years.

Son La is located on the Da River and will feature six turbines each with a 400MW capacity. Operation of the fourth unit means the project now produces two thirds of its total 2400MW planned power output.
