Chamera-III is a run-of-river schme on the river Ravi, upstream of the 300MW Chamera-II project. Major components of the project include a 68m high concrete gravity dam, a 15.99km long, 6.5m diameter horseshoe shaped headrace tunnel, a 110m high, 18m diameter surge shaft and underground powerhouse.
With the project now in commercial operation, NHPC has successfully commissioned projects with a total installed capacity of 1251MW in Himachal Pradesh, including the 180MW Baira Siul, 540MW Chamera-I and 300MW Chamera-II project. The company is also developing another two projects in the state with a total installed capacity of 1320MW – the 800MW Parbati-II and 520MW Parbati-III projects in Sainj Valley.
