Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Water and Power Ahmed Mukhtar urged the US to give financial assistance, along with the Asian Development Bank and other donors, stating that the structure was a lifeline for his country’s economy. He added that project construction was a top priority for the Pakistani government.
The US Counsellor for Economic Assistance and Development, Richard Albright, reaffirmed the commitment that the US would continue to support the people of Pakistan and help to improve the power sector. He added that the Diamer Basha dam was a very important project for future water requirement and cheaper power generation, and said that the US was interested in providing financial assistance. He discussed various proposals to raise funding for the project and said his country would be willing to provide the financial advice in this respect.
