AFRY has announced it has acquired freshwater ecology specialist EKOM in a bid to accelerate and enhance its work on Sweden’s national plan for reconsideration of hydropower's modern environmental conditions (NAP).
EKOM was founded in 2012 and focuses on issues related to the framework directive for water – both in hydropower but also in infrastructure projects. EKOM contributes with new and expanded competencies as well as service offerings to AFRY through, among other things, ecological inventories and investigations, ecological construction management and strategic services for future review processes.

The need for expertise in freshwater ecology, eco-hydraulics and strategic consulting services is increasing sharply with the national plan (NAP).”

EKOM is mainly active in the Swedish market. The company has 3 employees and is based in Hörnefors and Sorsele, Sweden. The company will be consolidated into AFRY from February 2021.
