alstom’s scope of supply for each project includes two Kaplan “S” turbines – which are specifically developed to fit the needs of small hydro plants – together with two generators, two speed controllers, two voltage regulators, and the assembly and commissioning supervision of this equipment.

The 20MW Pezzi plant will be built on the Antas River, between the municipalities of Bom Jesus and Jaquirana. Commissioning should start in September 2012. The 29MW Serra dos Cavalinhos II SHP will be located in the municipalities of São Francisco de Paula and Monte Alegre dos Campos and commissioning should begin in November 2012.

Equipment for the projects is being manufactured at Alstom’s Taubaté plant.

alstom is actively involved in Brazil’s small hydro market. Among recent achievements, in Rio de Janeiro it successfully implemented a Generation Operation Centre, which is responsible for the remote operation and maintenance of 16 small hydro plants distributed in the states of Goiás, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro.

The Pezzi and Serra dos Cavalinhos II projects are part of Brookfield Renewable Power’s plans to install between 100 to 150MW of small hydro per year over the next five years.
