EDF has awarded Alstom two contracts to renovate the speed and voltage systems in hydroelectric power plants in France.
The deals, awarded following a call for tenders in February 2013, are part of a significant investment scheme launched by EDF’s Production and Hydraulic Engineering Division, which primarily involves modernising electrical control installations in hydroelectric power plants.
The operation involves replacing existing systems with Alstom-designed ones to control the hydraulic turbines and their related generators. In addition, the contracts include a MOC (Maintenance in Operational Conditions) section, thus further asserting Alstom’s positioning in high value-added services. Initial refurbishment works are due to start in early 2015.
Alstom Hydro Services will carry out speed control work and Alstom Power Automation & Controls will be responsible for voltage control.
