The 84MW Cannelton hydro scheme will involve construction of a power house with three horizontal 28MW bulb units and intake and tailrace channels. Preparatory works include construction of a cellular cofferdam, an earth cofferdam and foundation work for the future power house.
For the 72MW Smithland plant, AMP-Ohio proposes a similar power house arrangement but with three horizontal 24MW bulb units. Like before, preparatory works are planned and the prequalification process has just been launched.
A 35MW hydro plant is planned for Willow Island, which will see two horizontal 17.5MW bulb units installed. Preparatory works planning for this is also underway.
For the preparatory civil engineering works – not including the power houses – AMP-Ohio is making the prequalification documents available until 29 August, and submissions from interested parties are due by 26 September.
Separately, the organisation has joined the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), which makes it the first municipal public power body to do so, it said.
Credits for trading on the exchange can be earned by reducing emissions below baseline agreements, which AMP-Ohio is doing under Phases I & II which proposes a four percent reduction in the four years to 2006, and six percent reductions below the baseline calendar year of 2001 by 2010.
