Design and construction of the 66MW plant is expected to begin next year and last 50 months. The contract value is US$220M.

Works on the project will include construction of a 87m high RCC dam.

The plant is being developed by state utility Comision Ejecutiva Hydroelectrica del Rio Lempa (CEL).

Astaldi was also recently awarded a contract by Pacific Hydro for the 106MW Chacayes hydro power plant in Chile. The Italian and Australian firms have an agreement in place to develop hydro resources in the local region, and are looking at projects such as Nido de Aguila and Las Lenas.
