Aurecon, a global design, engineering, and advisory firm, has announced Gabe Carter as its new Chief Executive for Asia, effective 1 March 2025. Carter will join the company’s Group Executive Leadership Team and relocate from Thailand to Singapore. He will oversee the operations of 2,100 employees across nine locations in the region.
Current Asia Chief Executive Stephane Asselin will transition to the role of Senior Advisor, where he will focus on client management and strategic market development in collaboration with Andrew Maher, Aurecon’s Chief Client & Growth Officer.
Aurecon CEO William Cox highlighted Asselin’s contributions over his six-year tenure. “Under Stephane’s leadership, Aurecon Asia has seen transformative growth, including market share expansion, service diversification, geographic growth, and workforce growth from 700 to 2,100 people. This includes establishing a Global Design Centre in Vietnam and a Shared Services Centre in Manila, as well as achieving record backlogs and nearly tripling sales, revenue, and profitability. We cannot thank Stephane enough for his efforts.”
Carter has been with Aurecon since 2003, joining after graduating from the University of New South Wales in Australia. Over his career, he has led major projects across the Asia-Pacific region and built strong client relationships. In 2021, he was promoted to Managing Director for Vietnam and Thailand, leading a team of 700 employees.
“Having spent 22 years at Aurecon, Gabe’s global perspective and exceptional collaboration skills enable him to deliver outstanding outcomes for our clients, people, and communities,” said Cox. “In Asia, the ability to collaborate nimbly and swiftly offers a significant advantage. I am excited to welcome Gabe to this role and look forward to his leadership in driving our Asia business to new heights.”
Carter expressed enthusiasm about his new role. “This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a talented team in one of the world’s most dynamic regions. Our connected organisation across Asia is a key differentiator, enabling us to deliver exceptional solutions and instilling confidence in our clients. I look forward to continuing this momentum and driving success with the team.”
He emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, climate change, and leveraging technology. “Technology and connectivity will remain central to our vision, alongside our focus on sustainability. By collaborating closely with colleagues in Australia and New Zealand, we will continue to deliver value for our clients across Asia Pacific,” Carter said.
Asselin praised Carter as a strong successor. “Gabe has been a highly valued member of the leadership team. He exemplifies the opportunities available at Aurecon and is well-positioned to continue our growth momentum and achieve even greater success.”
