The 16GW Baihetan hydropower project in China – the largest hydroelectric project currently under construction – has exceeded 10 billion kWh so far this year, a major step in China's efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency and green energy goals.
Located in the mainstream of the Jinsha River at the junction of Southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces, the station – being built by CTG –is a major project for transferring the abundant hydropower from western China to the country's major economic powerhouses in the east.
Equipped with 16 independently developed hydropower-generator units with the world’s largest single-unit capacity of 1 million kilowatts, Baihetan is now operating stably and has generated 25.6 billion kWh of power since the first batch of units was put into operation back in summer 2021.
