The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has opened bidding for the Bhumibol Dam Floating Solar Project 1 in Tak Province. Bidding documents are available for purchase until April 18, 2025, at EGAT’s procurement website. The project aims to contribute to Thailand’s carbon neutrality and clean energy goals.
According to Thidade Eiamsai, EGAT Deputy Governor for Power Plant Development and Renewable Energy, the project will have a generating capacity of 158 MWac. It is part of Thailand’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero emissions by 2065. The floating solar panels will be installed on the Bhumibol Dam reservoir, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2027.
Interested parties can submit sealed bids, which are scheduled to be opened on July 14, 2025, though the date may change.
The project is part of Thailand’s Power Development Plan 2018-2037 (PDP2018 Revision 1) and the upcoming revised plan. EGAT plans to develop more floating solar projects nationwide, with a total capacity of 2725MW by 2030. These projects will integrate solar power with existing hydropower plants to lower costs and increase clean energy output while minimizing environmental impact.
