The British Columbia government has announced the appointment of Glen Clark as the new chair of the BC Hydro board of directors, along with three new directors, effective January 1, 2025. The appointments aim to maintain BC Hydro’s focus on affordable electricity rates, infrastructure expansion, and effective resource management.
Glen Clark will succeed Lori Wanamaker as chair, with Wanamaker’s term ending on December 31, 2024. Clark, a former premier and minister of finance, brings significant experience in leadership and resource management, having also served as president of the Jim Pattison Group.
The newly appointed directors are:
- Merran Smith, president of New Economy Canada and founder of Clean Energy Canada, recognized for her leadership in advancing clean energy and climate solutions.
- Brynn Bourke, executive director of the BC Building Trades, known for initiatives supporting youth apprenticeships and reducing barriers for under-represented groups in the trades.
- Don Kayne, president and CEO of Canfor Corporation, with extensive experience in forestry, international marketing, and executive leadership.
These appointments fill vacancies left by Amanda Hobson, Victoria McMillan, Irene Lanzinger, and Daryl Fields, whose terms are ending or retiring.
Additionally, directors Nalaine Morin and Chief Clarence Louie, whose terms were set to expire, have been reappointed for an additional two years. The remaining board members remain unchanged.
The BC Hydro board oversees the corporation’s operations, including the implementation of provincial energy policies. The chair provides leadership to ensure the board acts in the best interests of the utility and the people of British Columbia.
