The European Investment Bank (EIB) and PJSC Ukrhydroenergo held a meeting in Kyiv to discuss ongoing and future cooperation on hydropower infrastructure and energy projects as part of Ukraine’s post-war recovery.

Ukrhydroenergo CEO Ihor Syrota met with senior representatives from EIB Global, the branch of the bank responsible for operations outside the EU. The EIB delegation included Andrew McDowell, General Director of EIB Global, and Lionel Rapaille, Director of Public Sector Lending for the Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood region.

Following the meeting in Kyiv, the delegation visited the Dnister Pumped Storage Plant. Participants in the site visit included Kristina Mikulova, Head of the EIB Regional Representation for Eastern Europe; Aron Kerpel-Fronius, Second Secretary of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine; Victoria Azhdar, Financial Analyst; and Viktor Doroshenko, Key Expert for Ukraine.

They were joined by Vitaliy Kushnirov, Member of the Supervisory Board at Ukrhydroenergo; Mariia Bishko, Deputy CEO for Investment Activities and International Fundraising; and members of the plant’s management team. Discussions focused on the modernization of hydropower plants, development of new energy facilities, and the implementation of environmental standards.

“We highly appreciate the support of our partners from the EIB. They not only invest in Ukraine’s energy future, but also come to us personally, demonstrating trust and solidarity in the most difficult times,” said Syrota.

“The EIB is our reliable partner that clearly understands the strategic role of hydropower in Ukraine’s energy security. We have discussed both current and future projects that are important for the stability of the power system and the development of renewable energy,” said Kushnirov.
