The Japanese Electric Power Development Corporation (EPDC) has won a contract from the Japan International Co-operation Agency to provide technical consulting services for a hydro power project in Bhutan. The scheme is expected to develop an average of 3.3B kWh of electricity annually, using the storage and head at a 58m high concrete dam which has yet to be constructed.
The generated power is to be sold to India and neighbouring countries. EPDC will perform hydrology studies, geological and topological surveys at the site, as well as provide advice on securing funds for the project. The consultancy agreement is scheduled to run from November 1998 to January 2001. EPDC is slated to receive about ¥100M (US$880,000) for its services to be provided through March 1999.
