The project is financed by Lancangjiang Co. under Huaneng Group in China. The first unit is scheduled begin operation in 2009. The electricity from this project will be transmitted to Guangdong and Hong Kong.

Equipment contract awarded for Xiaowan
Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation, in a consortium with Dong Fang Electrical Machinery Company (DFEM), has been awarded a US$80M contract to supply six 714MW, 216m head Francis turbines with ring gates for the Xiaowan hydroelectric project on the Lancangjiang river, in Yunnan Province, China.
