The erection of Spillway Radial Gate S-4 at the 2000MW Subansiri Lower hydroelectric project, located on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, was successfully completed on 29 January 2025, India’s NHPC Limited has announced.
The installation was accomplished in a record time of 29 days. With this achievement, all nine spillway radial gates of the project have now been erected. The completion of this key component is expected to support the timely execution and scheduled commissioning of the project. The work was carried out by Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd.
The NHPC Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is a 2000 MW run-of-the-river hydro project being constructed on the Subansiri River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra. It is one of the largest hydroelectric project under construction in India. The project is expected to significantly enhance power generation capacity in the northeastern region and contribute to the country’s renewable energy goals.
Despite facing delays due to environmental concerns and local protests, recent milestones such as the completion of spillway gates and MIV installation indicate steady progress toward commissioning.
