Ingula is being built near Ladysmith with the Bedford Stream upper reservoir connected to the powerhouse by an approximately 2km long headrace tunnel. A tailrace tunnel of about the same length will connect to a lower reservoir towards Braamhoek river.

The plant is to be commissioned in 2013.

Voith said its German and Japanese operating units would be joint partners on the contract to design and manufacture the equipment. The pump-turbines are to be supplied from Germany and the motor-generators from Japan.
