Speaking at the opening session of a five-day training course for irrigation infrastructure contractors in Ghana’s Upper East Region’s capital Bolgatanga, Mahama said that the new dams would allow off-season farming during the eight-month dry season.
Part of a $60M government contribution will be committed to the scheme, which is designed to provide all-year-round agricultural production for the regions and is expected to take three years to complete.
In his speech, Mahama also warned locals against venturing into dam construction with insufficient funds and equipment.
