Work on the 191km transmission line between Boa Vista, in the Brazilian state of Roraima , and the 10,300MW Guri hydro power plant in Venezuela is to be completed soon. The Brazilian part of the line is to be completed by Electronorte this month, and the frequency converter station to be completed by October. The Venezuelan side of the transmission line (490km) will be finished by Edelca Electrificaciondel Caroni in October 2000.
Venezuela will invest US$150M in the project, while Brazil will invest US$50M. The power purchase contract signed between Eletronorte and Edelca will be valid until 2020. Under the contract, Roraima state will buy an average of 200MW of hydro-generated power from Guri per day at US$40 per MW.
