Run-of-river hydro developer Hedcor is on schedule with construction of its Manolo Fortich hydro project in the Philippines, with the company making preparations for the onset of the rainy season.
In a statement, it said about 9km of steel conveyance pipeline has been laid already, and is targeting 5km more to complete installation of the conveyance line. The company is hoping construction will not be interrupted by rainfall, Vice President for Business Development Gregorio Jabonillo has said.
"We are readying all our resources including our people and facilities as we see the start of the rainy season," Jabonillo commented, adding that safety of the workforce is at the top of the company’s concerns an it will continuously monitor the site during the rains.
The AboitizPower subsidiary is currently focused on strengthening the cofferdams to protect the on-going construction of the weirs and powerhouse from flood. Temporary diversion channels are being restored to accommodate the expected flood flows. Likewise, the team is completing the construction of cross drainage for the volume of water.
Clearing out the debris and other possible materials which can cause clogging of natural waterways is also being done.
Manolo Fortich Hydro 1 is now 51% complete, while Manolo Fortich Hydro 2 is 33% complete. The two plants will be commissioned by the second quarter of 2017.
