Hydro-Québec has announced its Board of Directors has approved a new policy regarding relations with Indigenous communities, which it says will help further improve the utility’s ways of doing things.
Establishing and maintaining good relations with Indigenous communities has long been a priority in connection with its activities and projects, the utility said. The new policy outlines strategies regarding relations with partners, customers and Indigenous employees.
The new policy aims to promote the acceptability and integration of projects and activities within Indigenous communities, to help develop and maintain relations and to foster a workplace that is open and receptive to Indigenous peoples and their realities, it said in a statement
Furthermore, in June, President and CEO Éric Martel committed to raising awareness, company-wide, of the importance of strengthening ties with Indigenous peoples. It has also begun the process of obtaining Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) certification from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.
