Iberdrola is aiming to enhance its management of its 160 hydropower plants through a digitalization partnership with Volue.

The companies have entered into a framework agreement to undertake short-term production planning and optimization focused on Iberdrola’s hydropower portfolio.nThe digitalization journey aims to support the market bidding and dispatching processes and boost the digitalization required for energy management processes in the green transition.

Under the framework agreement, Volue will provide Iberdrola with a standard software suite to optimally manage the production of its hydropower plants across all power markets in Iberia, including both exchange (OMIE) and transmission system operator (TSO) (REE and REN) markets.

Volue's software suite will be configured to Iberdrola's specific business processes and will support all energy management business processes, including the short-term production planning, the creation of bidding strategies, and trading and scheduling for all the different energy markets where Iberdrola is active.

The digitization of Iberdrola's energy management processes will enable the company to build a body of traceable data, which will improve transparency both internally and externally. The partnership with Volue is part of Iberdrola's efforts to achieve climate neutrality before 2040, in line with Spain's energy and climate policies.
