Once Zambian utility Zesco Limited finalises its draft environmental impact assessment (EIA) report on the proposed development, the ECZ is to undertake a review to address the public’s worries and other environmental issues.
The study area for the draft EIA includes the intermediate project location and the adjacent geographical areas. The proposed power station would have a generating capacity of about 750MW with estimated costs of US$600M.
Zesco is to partner with Sino Hydro of China in the development of the project, construction of which is set to commence in mid-2005 for a duration of 4-5 years.
