Landsvirkjun, Iceland’s largest electricity generator, has approved a code of conduct for its suppliers and service providers and is currently in the process of implementing it.

The regulations will outline clear instructions for Landsvirkjun’s suppliers and service providers about the company’s expectations with regard to ethical working procedures and corporate governance. It covers nine categories including child and forced labour, non-discrimination, conflict of interest, business integrity, the environment, wages and benefits, and health and safety. The code will subsequently be implemented in contracts, tender specifications and supplier and performance evaluations.

Landsvirkjun signed the UN Global Compact in November 2013 and is committed to implementing the ten principles outlined by the UN in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
