The 400MW Lower Sesan II project – Cambodia’s largest hydropower scheme – has been officially inaugurated by the country’s prime minister Hun Sen.
Located in the northeastern province of Stung Treng, the project boosts electricity production in the country by 20% and brings installed hydropower capacity to 1328MW.
The project, which reportedly cost around $800 million, was built by a joint venture of Hydrolancang International Energy of China, Royal Group of Cambodia and Vietnam’s EVN International. Construction started over four years ago in February 2014.
