For reasons well known, roller compacted concrete dams (RCCD), especially high RCCDs look promising throughout the world. Sound analysis of stress of RCCDs plays an important role in their design and development. Research has been carried out on numerical models of RCCDs in past years. However, research could not provide a practical material model to simulate both the elastic and elastoplastic behaviour of high RCCDs.
Present research proposes a new idea, ie to simulate the stress-strain relationship of RCCDs with multi-laminate framework, which is an equivalent constitutive model and can describe both the elastic and elastoplastic behaviour of rock mass in detail. After introducing the multi-laminate framework, the Longtan RCC gravity dam, which is under design in China, is given as an example.
The example indicates that a multi-laminate framework can be used as a practical material model of high RCCDs.
