The Mohammed International Development Research Organisation and Companies (MIDROC) will be constructing a 150MW hydro power plant worth US$300M on the Gojeb river in western Ethiopia.
The plant is expected to be constructed within 12 months under an agreement signed between MIDROC, Ethiopia’s leading investment company, and the state-owned Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCO). The new plant is expected to raise the country’s power capacity by 25%.
Ethiopia is also planning to build five more plants which, by 2005, will increase its current total hydro power capacity by 290MW.
