Up to eight new dams could be built in the Australian state of Queensland under new flood management plans unveiled by the State Government.
The government has released a flood plan for public comment which includes proposals for dams at eight sites at the upper Brisbane River, Cooyar, Emu, Lockyer and Tenterhill creeks, and the Bremer and Stanley rivers, abc news reported. The plan also includes possible additional releases from Wivenhoe Dam in major flood events, and raising the dam height.
The plans are being discussed to prevent a repeat of the damage caused during the 2011 floods in the region.
