A 1MW hydropower scheme has been officially opened this week in Scotland this week in a ceremony attended by deputy first minister John Swinney.

The 1MW Merk hydropower plant in Glen Fyne, Argyll, was jointly developed by MEG Renewables, Richard Grubb and family, CRF Hydro Power Ltd and community organisation Here We Are

The £3.5 million project is one of the largest community-based hydro schemes in the country, and is the culmination of nine years worth of work. It is expected to produce 3.2MkWh/yr, powering up to 800 homes.
